In an early summer afternoon, the Scientific Times reporter visited Xu Guangguang, an expert in explosion theory and explosives application technology. In a casual conversation, the reporter felt the steadfast character, hard work attitude and enterprising spirit from Academician Xu as a research scientist.

 Xu Gengguang is a professor at Beijing Institute of Technology, advisor to the State Key Laboratory of Explosive Science and Technology, a doctoral supervisor, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He successively served as Deputy Director of the Expert Committee of Ordnance Industry Corporation and a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council. He is the convener of the "Academy of Arms Science and Technology", a member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, a member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau, and a vice chairman of the China Material Research Society.

Academician Xu Gengguang, who grew up in the war, studied as a teacher, as a researcher, and spent his life as peace.   He have won more than 10 national awards such as National Science and Technology Progress Award, 4 National Awards, and National Science Conference Awards. In 1998, he was awarded the “Model Worker of the National Education System” and was awarded the “National Model Teacher” title.
