On March 23, 2017, Academician Dennis Russell Salahub from University of Calgary visited Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology. He gave a brilliant academic report titled “Multiscale Modeling of Chemical and Biophysical Processes in Complex Environments”. Professor Chen Lang, associate professor Wu Junying from State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology, associate researcher Liu Xingchen from Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, associate professor Zhao Hailiang from Henan University of Technology together with some students attended the report. The report was hosted by Wu Junying.
Academician Dennis Russell Salahub is an expert in density functional theory and computational methods. In the report, he introduced DFT(Density Functional Theory), DFTB(Density Functional Tight-Binding)and the application of DFTB on QM/MM(Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics). His rigorous scientific attitude, unique insights and humorous language won a round of applause. After the report, he answered questions and discussed with teachers and students on their concerned questions.
