On March 2, 2017, Chairman of Process Safety Subcommittee, International Organization of Oil and Gas Producers Jan Roar Bakke visited Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology. He gave a brilliant academic report titled “Explosion and Fire - QRA Methodology Using FLACS”. The report was hosted by Wang Zhongqi, vice director of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology.

    Based on the research and development of FLACS software system which is one of the excellent numerical simulation platforms in the field of explosion safety research, Professor Jan Roar Bakke gave a systematic introduction of the establishment method of fire, explosion accident evolution model, flammable material leakage explosion and fire simulation test verification, master control parameter determination and characterization method, industrial combustion explosion safety analysis and design, etc. He also exchanged ideas extensively on the latest research results of the quantitative risk assessment method and the application of the major big explosion accidents in the world. The report has aroused participants’ attention and interests and they discussed and exchanged ideas with Professor Jan Roar Bakke on their concerned questions.

    After the report, Professor Jan Roar Bakke discussed with teachers from laboratory about the investigation and analysis of domestic industrial explosion accidents in recent years. At the same time he expressed the hope to further strengthen the exchange and cooperation and invite the laboratory to participate in the investigation and analysis of international industrial explosion accidents and application for projects.
