In the afternoon of October 21st, 2011, Prof. Fabrice Pierron of the National Institute of Advanced Engineering and Technology of the Gaoke National Technical University in Paris, France, was invited to the State Key Laboratory of Explosive Science and Technology for academic exchanges and made a presentation entitled “Novel Photomechanics Approach to High Strain Rate Testing of Materials”. Excellent academic report. Prof. Wang Liqiong, deputy director of the Key Laboratory, Prof. Wang Cheng, deputy director, Prof. Chen Pengwan, Prof. Zhang Liansheng, and the teachers and students of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Aerospace Engineering and Materials attended the report. The report was chaired by Dr. Guo Baoqiao.
Prof. Fabrice first started from the requirements of modern experimental mechanics, introduced the basic principles of Virtual Field Method for calculating mechanical parameters of materials, and the current development and application of high-speed cameras (especially ultra-high speed cameras). The application of virtual displacement field method in high-speed measurement is mainly introduced. Finally, Prof. Pierron explained in detail the recent research results of his research group, using the Hopkinson pressure bar loading device and optical measurement technology (including grating method and digital image correlation method) for macroscopic full field deformation of materials under high strain rate loading conditions. The information is measured to obtain information on the displacement, strain, etc. of the material under different loading conditions. In combination with the virtual displacement method, the mechanical parameters (such as the elastic modulus of the material) of the different constitutive equations of the material can be inverted. This is to establish the description of material dynamics. The constitutive equations of mechanical response, as well as the design and improvement of guidance materials, are of great significance.
The report aroused the intense attention and strong interest of the teachers and students present. Prof. Pierron exchanged and discussed with professors and students about the recent development status of high-speed cameras and the application of photometric experimental techniques combined with virtual displacement methods under dynamic loading conditions. .
