Academician Rolf K. Eckhoff from University of Bergen, Norway vistied BIT

From May 2-4, 2017, Academician Rolf K. Eckhoff from University of Bergen, Norway visited Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology (SKLEST). He gave two brilliant academic reports titled “Ignition of Dust Clouds” and “Relief Venting of Dust Explosion”. The reports were hosted by Wang Zhongqi, vice director of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology.

Professor Rolf K. Eckhoff is a member of Academia Europaea, an honorary member of WPMPS (powder mechanics), of Europ. Feder. Chem. Engineer and a famous expert in the field of dust explosion. He has published 3 works on the research of dust explosion and more than 120 theses. Professor Rolf K. Eckhoff is one of the editorial board members of Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, a recipient of the W. Cybulski medal and the only foreign expert who participated in the public hearing held by the US Chemical Safety Board in 2005, discussing about the increasing industrial dust explosion accidents in US.

During the report, Professor Rolf K. Eckhoff introduced the various environmental factors in dust explosion accidents, the influences of basic characteristic of dust on dust explosive ignition and how to use reduce the damages caused by explosion. The report included both his thorough comprehension through decades of research on dust explosion and the latest research progresses. The report has aroused participants’ attention and interests and they discussed and exchanged ideas with Professor Rolf K. Eckhoff on key points of dust explosion and frontier problems.

During the visit, Professor Rolf K. Eckhoff visited laboratories and facilities of SKLEST and spoke highly of the results achieved on gas explosion, dust explosion and multiphase explosion.
