2014 International Conference on Experimental Mechanics in fall successfully ended

Organized by the American Society of Experimental Mechanics, Asia Society of Experimental Mechanics, Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Experimental Mechanics, Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Mechanics Explosion, BIT (Beijing Institute of Technology), State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology of BIT, Collaborative Innovation Center of Safety and Protection, and National Key Laboratory of Environmental Impact Materials Technology, 2014 International Conference on Experimental Mechanics and International Seminar on Dynamic Load and Its Effect were held in Beijing from October 20th, 2014 to October 22th, 2014.

Chen Jie, the vice president of BIT, delivered a welcome speech during the opening. Yu Qifeng, the chairman of the conference, addressed an opening speech representing both the sponsors of the conference and the conference organizing committees, while Zhang Qinming, a professor and director of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology, hosted the opening ceremony of the conference.

International Conference on Experimental Mechanics in fall, which is held yearly, is considered one of the most significant global academic conferences in the field of experimental mechanics while International Seminar on Dynamic Load and Its Effect, also a yearly event, is an influential academic seminar sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of explosion of science and technology, The conference is an important exchange platform for both people in the field of dynamic load as well as its effect and those in the field of experimental mechanics. Furthermore, 16 well-known experts delivered reports on the conference and 98 representatives respectively addressed their group reports as well as displayed their posters, along with 28 experts addressing their reports.

The reports delivered on the conference are namely “Displacement-relay videometric methods for surface multi-position subsidence surveillance” by Yu Qifeng, a professor from University of National Defense Science and Technology, “Material dynamic experiments under ramp wave loading” by Sun Chenwei, a professor from China Academy of Engineering Physics,”Strain rate effect on dynamic impact and energy absorption of two dimensional lattice materials” by Fang Daining, a professor from Peking University,”Rate, structure and temperature effects on the flow stress and tensile strength of metals” by G.I. Kanel, a professor from Russian Academy of Sciences, “Normal and oblique projectile impact of double-layered pyramidal metallic lattices filled with ceramic insertions” by Lu Tianjian, a professor from Xi'an Jiaotong University, “Real-time damage assessment inside materials deforming at different rates” by Chen Weinong, a professor from Purdue University,U.S.A., “What Optical Metrology can do for the Inspection of Micro and nano Components” by Wolfgang Osten, a professor from University of Stuttgart, Germany, “Mechanics in combined extreme environments: recent experimental studies” by Arun Shukla, a professor from University of Rhode Island,U.S.A., “A residual stress measurement method for glass plates by integrating photoelasticity and spectrometer” by Wang Weizhong,a professor from Taiwan Tsinghua University, China, “Contribution of multiscale experimental and computational mechanics to the integration of advanced nanomaterials in mechanical systems” by Lv Jian, a professor from City University of Hong Kong, “Fully non-contact systems for damage visualization and diagnosis in composite structures” by Fuh-Gwo Yua, a professor from North Carolina State University, U.S.A., “A study on very high cycle fatigue properties of low flammability magnesium alloy in rotating bending and axial loading” by Tatsuo Sakai,a professor from Ritsumeikan University, Japan,  “Stokes-Mueller analysis to optical coherence tomography for possible stress analysis in biotissues and cancer cell diagnosis” by Yu-Lung Lo, a professor from China National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, “Friction behavior of fault gouges at co-seismic slip rates and normal pressures using modified torsional Kolsky bar” by Vikas Prakash, a professor from Case Western Reserve University,U.S.A., “Application of the continuous rotating detonation to gas turbine, jet and rocket propulsion” by Piotr Wolański, a professor from Warsaw University of Technology and “Experimental studies on dynamic deformation and fracture of materials and structures by using digital image correlation” by Chen Wangpeng, a professor from BIT.
