The “New Development and Application” of the 9th International Conference on Discontinuous Deformation Algorithms (ICADD9) was held from November 25th to November 27th, 2009 at the Administrative Center Building of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The conference aims to exchange new developments in discontinuous deformation analysis methods and promote the application of NMM and DDA methods in rock engineering. More than 100 experts and scholars from 17 countries attended the meeting. Dr. Shi Genhua from DDA Corporation of USA, Professor Ma Guowei from Nanyang Technological University, and Professor Ohnishi from Kyoto University in Japan made keynote speeches on the development and application of NMM and DDA algorithms. The participants conducted in-depth discussions regarding NMM algorithm, DDA algorithm, contact algorithm, crack expansion and the application of rock engineering.

The conference received a total of 80 papers, and the academic papers "Research on the DDA Method of Roof Overlap Problems" and "Popular Meta-values of Damage and Fracture of High-Precision Filled Composite Mesostructures" presented by Prof. Yang Jun and Prof. Dai Kaida  have attracted the attention of participating scholars.

The meeting was well-organized, participants actively exchanged their ideas, and the academic atmosphere was active. Through this meeting, they learned and grasped the latest international developments of the NMM and DDA algorithms. After the meeting, they also visited NTU's laboratories.
