Prof. Zhang Tonglai and Prof. Yang Li participated in the 38th International Fireworks Annual Conference held in Denver, USA on June 10-15, 2012. The conference focused on topics such as green synthesis, sensitivity and safety, testing methods and equipment, numerical simulation of energetic materials, ignition and detonation of energetic materials.
The conference began in 1968 and was hosted by the American Fireworks Association (IPSUSA). The conference invited Dr Sara Pliskin and Mr David Turner to chair the conference. Dr. Randall Cramer (United States Naval Weapon Environmental Laboratory), Dr. Ernst-Christian Koch (United States NATO-MSIAC) and Dr. Jason Baird (Missouri University, USA) were invited to make a special guest lecture. Experts and scholars from more than a dozen countries in the world have attended the annual pyrotechnics conference, including the United States, China, Russia, Japan, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Canada, South Korea, and Israel and the conference received over 170 articles.
Professor Zhang Tonglai and Prof. Yang Li from the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology gave an academic report on “Effects of Carbon Nanomaterials on the Electrostatic Performance of Lead Pb Oxide” and “Study on New Type of High-nitrogen Environment-Friendly Azide”, respectively. A lively academic discussion with field experts was received. This is the first time that the State Key Laboratory of Explosive Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology has participated in this conference. Professors Zhang Tonglai and Yang Li also had the honor of becoming members of The International Pyrotechnics Society.
Through this conference, we have fully understood the frontier hot issues of the pyrotechnics and energetic materials industry, broadened our horizons, met many international peer experts and scholars, and promoted academic exchanges and friendships with international counterparts. This also has expanded the international influence of the State Key Laboratory of Science and Technology around the world.
