报告摘要:

One exciting aspect of granular experimentation is the ability to visualize systems on both the grain-scale and bulk-scale. However, even if particles are transparent, strong scattering from the index-of-refraction mismatch with air cause most granular materials to be opaque. I will present a number of solutions to this problem including: direct imaging of surface particles in 3D or all particles in 2D systems including force measurements using photoelastic particles, index-matching, X-ray imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging.
