报告人简介:

Dr. Kegang Wang is holding a tenured full professor position in Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department, Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), and joined in Mechanical & Aerospace Department, FIT from 2012.  From 2006 to 2011, he was Associate Professor in Physics and Space Sciences Department, FIT. From 1999 to 2006, he was Research Assistant Professor/Visiting Scholar, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, New York. Before he moved to RPI, he held Associate Professor position in Beijing Institute of Technology, China. He received his Ph.D. from Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. Professor Wang’s research covers theoretical, computational, and experimental materials science and engineering, and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. He developed several fundamental theories and computer simulation techniques, and statistical mechanics of anomalous diffusion. His research was funded by National Science Foundation and NASA in the US, Ministry of Education of China, China Postdoctoral Foundation, and Ministry of Education and Technology of Spain. He authored and coauthored two book chapters and about 70 refereed journal papers. He delivered 51 seminars and invited talks in universities, research institutes, industries, and international conferences, and about 50 contributed conference talks.

报告摘要:

Phase coarsening (Ostwald ripening) is a ubiquitous phenomenon occurring in the field of chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, and economics. The advance over the past fifty years in theoretical, computational, and experimental studies of phase coarsening will be briefly discussed. Firstly, classic theory for phase coarsening like Lisfshitz, Slyozov, and Wagner’ theory will briefly be discussed. Secondly, our diffusion screening theory will be shown. Thirdly, simulation methods will be reviewed for phase coarsening, including phase-field and multiparticle diffusion methods. Fourthly, quantitative comparison among theories, simulations, and experiments will be presented. Finally, the effects of phase coarsening on mechanical properties of materials such as hardness and toughness will be shown in detail.
