Chair: Prof.dr.ir.L.J.(Bert)Sluys -Research interests: computational mechanics of materials, modelling of failure processes in civil engineering materials, multi-scale methods -He received his PhD (cum laude) from the Delft University of Technology in 1992 -He was an Academy Research Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) from 1992-1997 -He was a post-doctoral researcher at Brown University, Providence, USA (1993), at the University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia (1996) and at the University of Glasgow, U.K (1996) -He was a Visiting Professor at the Laboratoire de Mecanique et Technologie, ENS de Cachan, France (1997) and at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon (INSA), France (2001) -He received the Concrete Award (1988), the Vreedenburgh Prize (1994) and a Personal STW grant (2005) -He was appointed Professor (chair: Computational Mechanics) at the Delft University of Technology in 2005 or in very short text format: Professor Bert Sluys is head of the Computational Mechanics group at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology. The research group focuses on the numerical modelling of failure mechanisms in various materials at various scales. His main research areas are in the field of computational failure mechanics, multi-scale methods, impact analysis, inverse modelling techniques, instabilities, coupled problems and the computational modelling of high-performance materials.
