Famous scholars invited SKLEST in BIT


    On July and August, 2015, Professor S. F. Li from University of California, Berkeley, Professor D.Rittel from Israel Institute of Technology, Dr. T. Jiao from Brown University and Professor P. W. Shim from National University of Singapore were invited to visit the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology in Beijing Institute of Technology(BIT).

    During the visit, the laboratory officers held 5 academic seminars. Professor S. F. Li delivered a report titled “Multiscale Crystal Defect Dynamics (MCDD): A quasicrystal lattice process zone approach” and came up with the idea that material genes may affect material’s bugs with a deep deduction and analysis. Professor D. Rittel gave an academic visit for 16 days during which he offered a public class for 15 class hours on material dynamic mechanical function. And he also delivered reports titled “Modeling Adiabatic Shear Failure from Energy Considerations”and “Electro Magnetic Collapse of Thick Walled Cylinders” to the students and teachers. Dr. T. Jiao gave reports named “Pressure-Shear Plate Impact Experiments” and “Experimental and Computational Investigation of the Response”. In the report, he introduced the key technology in the experiment, showing dynamic mechanical behavior of poly-urea under high strain rate and its application in explosion and shock resistance.

    Meanwhile, Professor P. W. Shim introduced the dynamic behavior under load technology of gas gun and other functions of high-strength fiber fabric from several angles in his report “Projectile Penetration of High-strength Fabric”. Their excellent reports were greatly welcomed by the faculties and students.

    Other attendants were, Professor Wang Cheng, vice chairman of the laboratory, Professor Chen Pengwan, Wu Yanqing, Song Weidong and professors from the School of Material Science and Engineering including Professor Li Shukui, Professor Fan Qunbo, associate professor Wang Lin. Some postgraduate students also attended the academic seminar.
